Dear Columbia School District Family,
We are writing to address some recent misinformation circulating on social media regarding the safety of our school district.
First and foremost, we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. We have safety protocols in place, and we work closely with local law enforcement to ensure a secure environment for everyone.
There have been posts on social media suggesting potential threats to a number of schools. Included were a Columbia High School, a Columbia Middle School and a Columbia Elementary. It has been ascertained that this was a school district with a similar name located in another state. We, along with local and state law enforcement, have vetted this information and have found no credible threats.
We understand that such misinformation can cause fear and anxiety. We encourage you to rely on official communications from the district for accurate information. If you have any concerns or hear any rumors, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
To help maintain a safe and supportive environment, we ask that you remind your children about the importance of not sharing unverified information on social media. Encourage them to report any concerns directly to a trusted adult or through our established reporting channels.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Together, we can ensure that our school remains a safe place for learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Jim Baker, Superintendent
